Passive voice adalah kalimat yang subyeknya di kenai tindakan/pekerjaan. Biasanya dalam bahasa Indonesia dinamakan kalimat aktif (me…) dan kalimat pasif (di…/ter…). Misalnya, dimakan, diambil, dibuang, diperhatikan, terbuang, dll.
Ada beberapa syarat yang harus di penuhi untuk membentuk kalimat pasif/ passive voice,
- Kalimat harus memiliki obyek atau obyek ditanyakan dengan kata tanya,
- Subyek dalam kalimat aktif menjadi obyek dalam kalimat pasif dan atau sebaliknya,
- Kalimat pasif harus menggunakan kata kerja bentuk ketiga (Verb 3/ Past Participlel setelah BE (is/am/are/was/were/be /been/being)
- Bentuk kalimat pasif mengikuti bentuk tense-nya
- Bentuk dasar kalimat pasıf adalah BE + VERB+3/PAST PARTICIPLE

Kalimat ini digunakan untuk menyatakan kalimat pasif pada bentuk present/saat ini.
- Present Simple Tense S+ is/am/are + Verb-3+ (by O)
- Present Continuous Tense S+ is/am/are + being+Verb-3+ (by 0)
- Present Prefect Tense S+has/have + been + Verb-3+ (by 0)
- Present Perfect Continuous Tense S+has/have + been + (being) + Verb-3 + (by 0)
Contoh kalimat pasif:
Active: Harvey eats healthy food everyday.
Passive: Healthy food is eaten by Harvey everyday.
Active: Firly is watering some flowers.
Passive: Some flowers are being watered by Firly
Active: Has Dony driven a new car?
Passive: Has a new car been driven by Dony
Active: Tom has not been drawing some pictures
Passive: Some pictures have not been (being) drawn by Tom
2. The Past Tenses in Passive voice.
Kalimat ini digunakan untuk menyatakan kalimat pasif pada bentuk lampau.
- Past Simple Tenses S+was/were +Verb-3 + (by 0)
- Past Continuous Tense b S+was/were+ being + Verb-3 + (by 0)
- Past Prefect Tense S+had + been + Verb-3+(by 0)
- Past Perfect Continuous Tense S+ had + been +(being) + Verb-3 + (by 0)
Contoh kalimat pasif:
Active: Lea paid a tax last week
Passive: A tax was paid by Lea last week.
Active: Three workers were lifting a big cupboard
Passive: A big cupboard was being lifted by three workers
Active : A raging storm had destroyed hundreds houses
Passive: Hundreds houses had been destroyed by P raging storm
Active: Sinta had been slicing some meat in the kitchen
Passive: Some meat had been (being) sliced by Sinta in the kitchen.
3. The Future Tenses in Passive voice:
- Future Simple Tense S will/shall be Verb-3+(by 0)
- Future Continuous Tense S+will/shall+ be +(being) + Verb-3+(by 0)
- Future Prefect Tense S+will/shall + have +been+Verb-3+(by 0)
- Future Perfect Continuous Tense S+ will/shall +have +been + (being) + Verb-3 +(by 0)
Contoh kalimat pasif:
Active: Jenny will visit many tourism places next holiday.
Passive: Many tourism places will be visited by Jenny next holiday.
Active: Eva won’t be supervising examinees at 7 tonight.
Passive: Examinees won’t be (being) supervised by Eva at 7 tonight.
Active: Astonomers will have built new space stations by2040.
Passive : New space stations will have been built by astronomers by 2040.
Active : Joe will have been finishing his master degree by the end of June next year.
Passive: Joe’s master degree will have been (being) finished (by him) by the end of June next year.
Active: Astonomers will have built new space stations by2040.
Passive : New space stations will have been built by astronomers by 2040.
Active: Joe will have been finishing his master degree by the end of June next year.
Passive: Joe’s master degree will have been (being) finished (by him) by the end of June next year.
4. The Past Future Tenses in Passive voice
Patterns:
- Future Simple Tense S+would/should +be + Verb-3+(by 0)
- Future Continuous Tense S+would/should + be +(being) + Verb-3+(by 0)
- Future Prefect Tense would/should +have + been + Verb-3+(by 0) +S
- Future Perfect Continuous Tense S+would/should +have+ been +(being) + Verb-3+ (by 0)
Contoh kalimat pasi:
Active: Cullen would make a checking account last Monday.
Passive: A checking account would be made by Cullen last Monday.
Active: A taxi driver would be taking some passengers to the airport.
Passive: Some passengers would be (being) taken by a taxi driver to the airport.
Active: Lisa would have mailed two letters by 10 o’clock yesterday.
Passive: Two letters would have been mailed by Lisa by 10 o’dock yesterday.
Active: Some architects would have been designing a hundred-story building.
Passive: A hundred-story building would have been (being) designed by some architects.
